A mystery reigns: twelve beautiful, obedient princesses awaken each morning with their energy and dancing shoes destroyed. The king is in a quandary. Is it a harmless enchantment or something bewitchingly dark and dangerous?
Based on a classic fairy tale "The Twelve Dancing Princesses" by the Brothers Grimm, The Enchantment
explores questions that resonate in today’s world:
Do we succumb to enchantment as a means of escape?
When we pursue that which attracts or delights us, how far is too far?
When does fascination cross the line into dangerous obsession?
Choreographed by MDT Artistic Director Lise Houlton, The Enchantment
premiered in 2006 and features a musical score arranged by composer/pianist Tom Linker, who weaves his original compositions into the piano sonatas and the Idyll
of Leoš Janáček.
