Join us as we journey through MDT’s storied history, threading together the pioneering artistic vision of MDT founder Loyce Houlton, the transformative leadership of former Artistic Director Lise Houlton, and the dynamic, inventive energy of today’s dancers, creators and collaborators who will continue MDT’s lineage. These encore performances feature an expanded breadth of work for a new cast of dancers.
Act I: Emergence - October 14 & 15, 2023
Loyce Houlton, in her own words. An intimate tour through the artist’s prolific career, from the early days of the Contemporary Dance Playhouse to her success as an internationally renowned choreographer. Featuring a collage of archival footage, Loyce’s personal writings, and reconstructed excerpts from her seminal and iconic works performed by dancers from the MDT company and school.
Act II: Transformation - October 28 & 29, 2023
A festive celebration honoring Lise Houlton’s leadership and the distinct creative exploration that shaped her nearly 30-year tenure as MDT Artistic Director. Witness these inspired collaborations come to life through the athleticism, technical excellence and expressive range of MDT's dancers, joined for this performance by special guest performers
Act III: Becoming - November 11 & 12, 2023
Moving forward from spring’s showcase, this program offers a raw portrait of MDT at this new inflection point, exploring candid reflections on the meaning of legacy while offering a fresh look at new choreographic works taking shape in MDT’s studios with the next generation of MDT artists and creators.
Tickets: Tickets are $18* and must be purchased in advance.
*tickets are non-refundable and must be purchased separately for each showing. $12 standing room tickets will be released in the days prior to the performance, upon availability.
