Young Children’s Division (YCD)

These classes are the joyful introduction to dance for girls & boys ages 3.5 – 11. Students in the Young Children’s Division (YCD) explore movement through imagery, music and self-expression.

Registration  2018-19 will be open later this summer. All information below is from 2017-18 and is subject to change for 2018-19.

YCD ages 3.5, 4, 5, 6  $270.00/16-week session (see below for schedule)

 These age-appropriate classes are the joyful prelude to formal ballet and contemporary training. Young dancers will develop their understanding of rhythm and enhance their coordination as they explore fundamental dance movements in a welcoming, group-class environment. Creativity and self-expression are encouraged.

INTERMEDIATE  $355.00/16-week session (see below for schedule)

At the Intermediate level, young dancers train in ballet and contemporary aesthetics with a heightened focus on alignment, musicality, and terminology. These classes prepare students for entrance into the Performing Arts Division.

BOYS CLASSES  tuition-free; $8.00 registration fee

Boys Class is a tuition-free program for boys ages 5-11. Boys classes are designed to enhance athletic skills, flexibility, coordination, and strength; all important aspects of this performance art form and cross-disciplinary training.

Wednesdays 6:00 – 7:00 PM Studio 6B Ages 5-7
Wednesdays 6:00 – 7:00 PM Studio 7A Ages 8-11

Additional Registration Information

A one-time $25.00 new family fee (not applicable to tuition) will be applied at the time of enrollment for new students to the school. Full payment is due on or before the first day of class.

Students enrolled in Session I who wish to continue in Session II must register online for Session II.

YCD students must be the appropriate age for a particular level by the first day of classes.

Students who completed their first year of Intermediate last year should register for that level again this year.

Class placement should not be adjusted between 2017-18 sessions unless prior approval is received from MDT&S. Progress through a curriculum is most successful most successful for all when there is continuity in the learning environment.

MDT has a minimum enrollment policy of 5 students per class. If minimum enrollment is not met by the end of the third week of classes, MDT may cancel the class and provide alternative options to students.

January 20 YCD Showcase @ 2:00 PM: regular classes will not meet – all dancers should arrive at noon to rehearse, see below for more info

SESSION II: January 29, 2018- May 26, 2018

January 29- February 4 First Week of Classes – Sat classes will begin Feb 10 due to Super Bowl, and made up in spring
March 19-25 Parent Observation Week
March 26-April 1 Spring Break – No Classes
May 25-26 Strawberry Festival, A Student Showcase


Performance Information

YCD offers two performance opportunities at the end of each session:


YCD Student Showcase takes place at the end of Session I, January 20th at 2:00pm in Studio 6A, and includes all YCD/boys students. Students should arrive at MDT at noon for warm-up and rehearsal on January 20th. No regular classes are held January 20th.


  •  It is important that students arrive promptly at noon so that they are present for warm-up class and final rehearsals.
  • Students should just wear what they normally wear to class, unless informed otherwise by teacher. It is not necessary to purchase anything.
  • Young Children’s Division students who usually attend on Saturdays will not have regular class on January 20th, but please note that some Performing Arts Division classes are being held that day. See schedule below.
  • This event is open to all YCD families and is free of charge.
  • If your student is unable to participate, please inform their teacher as soon as possible.
  • All students wishing to continue on to Session II must register in the same class they are currently enrolled in. Be sure to enroll by January 27th. Session II classes begin the week of January 29th.



Strawberry Festival is the year-end performance for all students in the School, including PAD, YCD and Boys Classes. Performance dates are May 25 at 6:00pm & May 26 at 1:00pm  at The Cowles Center (Dress Rehearsal afternoon/evening of May 24). Please note this is Memorial Day weekend.  More information to follow.

Class Attire


Any color leotard, convertible or stirrup tights and pink ballet slippers.


White fitted t-shirt, elastic waist shorts, white socks and white ballet slippers. Each student will be provided their t-shirt and shorts, which remain the property of MDT&S and must be returned to the office when the student has finished using them or has outgrown them. Families will be responsible for obtaining white socks and white ballet shoes for their student.
